The Azerbaijani baritone Elchin Azizow is a star soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. He has sung numerous leading roles there, including Prince Igor, Grigoriy Gryaznoy (Bride of the Tsar), Count Tomsky (Queen of Spades), Ibn-Hakia (Iolanta), Lescaut (Manon Lescaut), Rodrigo (Don Carlo), Giorgio Germont (La Traviata) and Escamilio (Carmen). Outside Russia, Elchin Azizov has sung at many renowned opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House, the Opéra de Lyon, the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma and the Theater an der Wien.
In the 2019-20 season, Elchin Azizov returns to the Metropolitan Opera twice, first in his role debut as Paolo in Verdi's Simon Boccanegra and then as Lescaut in Puccini's Manon Leascaut. He will also make his role debut this season as Mazeppa, singing in the Tolouse Hall and the Paris Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Tugan Sokhiev.
